A New Year’s Challenge – Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days
Last January I decided to tackle a big feat for me—painting one painting a day for 30 days. Was I successful? Yes—but I didn’t have 30 paintings at the end of January. I only had 20. Ten short? How was that successful? Well, I experimented with styles I don’t usually use, media I don’t usually handle and had the timeframe I usually give myself cut drastically by a fraction of what I usually have to complete a painting. It didn’t matter to me that I didn’t have 30 paintings in one month. What mattered to me is whether or not I grew as an artist. And, I absolutely feel that I did.
This personal challenge is part of a bigger challenge by hundreds of artists nationwide. You can find the link here.
Of course life is bound to show up. Drama. Schedules. Homework. Housework. The office. Deadlines I cannot miss because I want to paint. And that’s okay. I didn’t plan on beating myself up about whether or not I could complete the task, just whether or not I could complete the challenge in a month. Which I did. I’m excited about the new challenge awaiting me.
I’m taking it on again in just a few days. Wish me luck.
You can find my daily paintings here starting January 1st.
