A Trip to UGA Tifton Future Farmstead
UGA Tifton Future Farmstead, 11" x 14" Oil on Canvas.
I'm always looking for new places to paint. I'll occasionally post to social media asking for suggestions around the area and I always get a great response. So many places are mentioned that I've not thought of or didn't even know existed. It's nice to see my followers are genuinely interested in my next onsite painting location and also that they took the time to let me know.
One of the places I'd not thought of is the Future Farmstead at the UGA Tifton Campus. It is truly beautiful there and fascinating to know how progressive our little corner of the world is for agriculture. I set up my Plein-air pochade box, assembled my paints and brushes and began to block in the scene. It was terribly hot that day so I was only able to paint for a couple of hours before I was ready to seek a shadier spot.
However, I was able to come back a few days later and finish the painting. The morning light was still soft but the weather wasn't near as hot and humid as before, so I was able to complete a lot more brushwork.
I even received a shout-out from UGA Tifton for my painting (via my Facebook post)! Tifton has so many little gems out there and I'm doing my very best to chronicle each and every one. I've said it many times... I really love our little town and truly hope my work reflects that love.
Did you know that the farmstead is a net-zero energy home complete with edible landscaping and is preparing the way for homes of the future?
