New Year, New Art & A New Series

New Year, New Art & A New Series

My newest series, “Songs and Skies” has begun to emerge from my studio, and you can help participate in its development.

I’m looking for help from my collectors and followers to inspire these new works painted from the collaboration of their favorite lyrics and my response to these songs. I’ve always felt a connection to music as I paint, and am never far from either when I’m working. Music helps me think, helps me form my imagery and gives me motivation to do what I love!

My first painting in this series is from one of my favorite songs, “Southland in the Springtime” by the Indigo Girls. It tells of a journey from Georgia to Texas, and speaks of the beauty and memories back home the singer is leaving behind.

"With the farmland like a tapestry, passed down through generations ...

There's no place like home and none more pleasing'

then the Southland in the Springtime”

This new painting features a lush South Georgia field in Spring, with a long winding dirt drive that meanders through the grasses, trees and wildflowers. I can almost smell the new growth, and hear the songbirds in the early morning.

I chose these lyrics because I too have felt heartache for leaving Georgia behind while also experiencing the anticipation of new places, when I travelled from Georgia to live in Arkansas in the late 90’s. It was beautiful up there in the Ozark Mountains. I had a new job as a graphic designer and although I loved working there (a Fortune 500 Retailer’s corporate headquarters), I soon longed for the sweet reminders of South Georgia. I left for Georgia four years later and have been back ever since. I’ve lived in Macon, Atlanta and other places, but have never moved outside of the state again. My roots run too deep to live anywhere else.

If you would like to participate in this new series by including your favorite lyrics, please email them to jennifermccallart@gmail.com

Also, by participating, you will be entered to win one of my new 11’ x 14” prints on my website.

I’m truly giddy with the idea of this new series. I hope you will find it exciting as well.

Happy New Year!

Jennifer
