The Fever
It is already in the South Georgia air… mild and pollen-filled, the azaleas are just beginning to bloom and I’m sure the dogwood blossoms are just around the corner. Not unlike any southerner in the middle of February, I find my eyes drifting to the window to catch a glimpse of Spring. Not unlike any artist, I’m dreaming of plein air afternoons. When the weather is just right and the breeze is soft enough to be pleasant but not too windy to blow over your easel full of paints or in my case, usually pastels.
I’ve got the fever.
Whether I have prepped panels in my arms or a few small canvases, I’ll be lugging any extra gear gleefully. I’ll also probably have a boisterous seven-year old in tow who’s just as happy to play in the sand at my feet or the dandelions close by, as long as she’s near her mommy.
Spring brings more landscapes. More time out of the studio and into the fields and woods. Or the coast and marshes. Or anywhere with no wifi or meetings.
Spring whispers promises of more paintings, the therapy I need most, since my time to paint is so scattered lately.
Where have you been hiding Spring? I am eagerly awaiting your return.
Happy Valentine's Day! Go spend time with the ones you love.
