When The Flock Came Home
It wasn’t cold enough for a jacket, but just chilly enough for a light sweater as I stood at the easel. It was dawn, and the skies were full of turquoise and apricot, colors you’d only see as the sunrise began. Then they came in, in a glorious symphony of honks and flapping wings. A whoosh of water at the pond, as they lit upon it, and the moment couldn’t have been more fantastic.
I set about to paint the scene, keeping it fresh with pastels—siennas and sage, plums, golds, all fall colors I’d set aside. The air was just right; I dove into my painting as the geese set about their morning.
I cannot describe well enough the emotions I felt as I pushed in the pastels that morning. My strokes were as big and full as my heart.
How do you feel about fall in South Georgia? What are your favorite parts of this season here?
